  • Abstract:
    The housing property in Portugal has reached an unprecedented growth during the last decade reaching the Construction Value Added in Housing (CVAH) an average annual growth rate of 6%. Although, the high level of growth in the house building industry the way how it is organised and operates do not match the pattern of growth achieved during last decade. Productivity in housing building has not shown signs of improvement and housing costs are still very high. To face the demands of the economy and European Monetary Integration new structural reforms are need in the housing property. This paper presents an analysis of the housing property markets in Portugal and their relation with the macro-economic data. It makes an analysis of the evolution of the housing property in terms of the supply and demand sides. It discusses the impact of the Economic and Monetary Union (MEU) on the housing property markets. Finally, it attempts to establish future trends for the housing property in Portugal.
